La Rioja, throughout its entire history, has acquired worldwide fame and prestige for its red wines. However, its whites have always been in their shadow. In 2003, Castillo de Maetierra led the project for the creation of the Vinos de la Tierra de los Valles de Sadacia, a “country wine” label for superior white wines, which sought to achieve the recognition for white wines from La Rioja what the D.O.C. Rioja has achieved for its reds.
To achieve this aim, Valles de Sadacia, through the Castillo de Maetierra, began replanting indigenous white grape varieties such as the Muscat a petits grains. Later other renowned national and international varieties were introduced to the list of grapes, such as Verdejo, Albarino, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Gewurztraminer or Viognier, outstanding for their fruit and aroma. The potential of these outstanding varieties in a land with the geo-climatic conditions of La Rioja, endow Valles de Sadacia with an unlimited potential for obtaining white wines with superior qualities. A true revolution in the industry, with the vocation of making itself the new point of reference for supreme white wines in Spain.
